Animal Farm Dialectical Journal
25ââ¬Å"Mr. Jones of Manor Farm, had locked the hen houses for the night, but was too drunk to remember to shut the pop holes. â⬠I think this displays the beginning of the rebellion. Mr. Jones was careless and forgetful. 28ââ¬Å"There, comrades, is the answer to all our problems. It is summed up in a single word ââ¬â Man. â⬠This shows the feeling towards humans from the point of the animals. 37ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Comradeââ¬â¢, said Snowball, ââ¬Ëthose ribbons that you are so devoted to are the badge of slavery. Can you understand that liberty is worth more than ribbons? ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ It is interesting how each animal has an individual opinion of what they are going to give up for the rebellion. 38ââ¬Å"When Mr. Jones got back he immediately went to sleep on the drawing room sofa with the News of the World over his face, so that when the evening came, the animals were still unfed. At last they could stand it no longer. â⬠Mr. Jones again displayed his forgetfulness and carelessness. 45ââ¬Å"But the pigs were so clever that they could think of a way around every difficulty. â⬠This shows the beginning of the pigsââ¬â¢ dominance. 52ââ¬Å"Now if there was one thing that the animals were completely certain of, it was that they did not want Jones back. â⬠I think this shows how the animals had made a definite decision of rebellion towards humans and Mr. Jones. 54ââ¬Å"Every day Snowball and Napoleon sent out flights of pigeons whose instructions were to mingle with the animals of neighboring farms, tell the story of rebellion, and teach then the tune of Beasts of England. â⬠The animals were happy, proud, and wanted everyone to know of their rebellion and wanted them to join. 58ââ¬Å"And so within five minutes of their invasion they were in ignominious retreat by the same way they had come, with a flock of geese hissing after them and pecking at their calves all the way. â⬠The animals displayed their confidence and how prepared they were through this action. 62ââ¬Å"A thought struck Clover. Without saying anything to the others, she went to Mollieââ¬â¢s stall and turned over the straw with her hoof. Hidden under the straw was a pile of lump sugar and several bunches of ribbon of different colours. â⬠Not all of the animals were loyal to the rebeliion as others were. 65ââ¬Å"Napoleon walked heavily round the shed, looked closely at every detail of the plans and snuffed at them once or twice, then stood for a little while contemplating them out of the corner of his eye. â⬠Napoleon did not agree with Snowball often and clearly expressed his feelings. 73ââ¬Å"All that year the animals worked like slaves. â⬠The animals were working harder than when there were humans around them. 77ââ¬Å"Every Monday Mr. Whymper visited the farm as had been arranged. â⬠The animals were changing and letting a human on their farm. 84ââ¬Å"The animals carried on as best they could with re-building of the windmill, well knowing that the outside world was watching them and the envious human beings would rejoice and triumph If the mill were not finished on time. In my opinion this shows how dedicated the animals were, especially knowing that they would probably fail. 93ââ¬Å"They were all slain on the spot. And so the tale of confessions and executions went onâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Napoleon had started a bad, evil habit of killing animals who were supposed to be working together against the humans. 98ââ¬Å"No animal shall kill any other animal without cause. â⬠Napoleon is destroying the feeling of equality. 103â⬠A gander who had been privy to the plot had confessed his guilt to Squealer and immediately committed suicide by swallowing deadly night shade berries. â⬠The society is becoming so messed up animals donââ¬â¢t even have the desire to live. 116ââ¬Å"Besides, in those days they had been slaves and now they were free, and that made all the difference, as Squealer did not fail to point out. Our lives could always be improved, but we need to be aware of what is actually the best for us. 118ââ¬Å"In April, Animal Farm was proclaimed a Republic, and it became necessary to elect a presidentâ⬠Changes are continuing on the farm. 128ââ¬Å"Many animals had been born to whom the Rebellion was only a dim tradition, passed on by word of mouth. â⬠The rebellion lost importance and was only a faint memory. 129ââ¬Å"The creature outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which. â⬠The animals began not wanting anything to do with humans, but then transformed themselves into humans.
